Humans and their weak drives
For one Love and Sex are two totally different things. While they share mechanics and work together alot of the times in humans they are two different drives. First i need you to think of Love and Arousal not as urges but as hungers. Like the desire to breathe and the desire to eat love and arousal are hungers. People are quick to say that if you don't fuck and don't have a girl friend you wont die, like breathing and eating. This is true, for humans. Humans have relatively weak love mechanics and sex drive compared to the REST of the animal kingdom. For instance the red-tailed deer, while in rut(in heat, horny as hell) will not eat or drink or anything until it gets some. Humans never get that horny. Humans do not feel love like the rest of the animal kingdom either. It is not as strong but it does tend to be more complex.
The way love works is as follows: There is a chemical (actually several, but lets keep it simple) in the brain that could be called the love chemical. We also have a number of emitters and receptors that deal with this chemical. We can teach our brain to activate those emitters to emit the chemical when certain nuerons are triggered. Like if a series of nuerons that hold the memory of yellow are activated when the person sees or remembers yellow then the emitter will activate and send out the love chemical. Then our receptors recieve that chemical and those receptors are wired to a series of other nuerons which eventually ends up making you feel pleasure. So you see yellow, and you feel pleasure. Doesnt have to be a hell of alot of pleasure. If that object was instead your yellow hot-rod then maybe a little more pleasure would be attributed to its memory.
Now, if you have alot of receptors and emitters you will feel more pleasure by its memory than if you have fewer receptors and emitters. When it comes to love, humans have relatively few receptors and emitters than animals. Animals can have so many that if they do not get a certain amount of that chemical per day they will eventually die.
Perhaps you have heard stories about accounts of human love that they do amazing things but on average most humans would like to HAVE love but if they dont get it they just feel a bit irratable and depressed.
Humans like to think that they feel love and what ever animals feel cant be love because they are stupid. I hate how egotistical humans can be. Humans can experiance more complex love but it is basically the same feeling. Animals dont have the intelligence to appreciate that they feel love but that doesnt meant they dont still have it. Humans can love something about a person, instead of the simple desire to be near them. They like to think that that is what makes humans different or better than animals. It can be extremely complex or subconscious even but all kinds of loves work about the same way. Chemicals, and brain mechanics.
Animals feel love in a physical attatchment sort of way. They have a physical desire to be around each other. This can be so strong that seperating them can kill them.
Animals do not all have the same love mechanics. For instance alot of sea turtles dont have even an iota of love for their young. While some birds will fight to the death to protect their eggs. No animal i can think of has the intelligence to love the way another animal does something but plenty of animals enjoy being around other animals of their kind and a few animals i can think of have desire to be around each other so strongly they will die of stress if they are seperated.
The reason love exists is because it is a good survival instinct. Humans like to be around other humans and being in large groups make them safer. It also ensures that they will have access to alot of mates.
Sex and love are both desires that are much much stronger in most animals than humans. Also Sex and love are two desires are totally independant of each other. Humans like to put sex and love together because they usually only have sex with people they love(besides paying to get it, ect). Only dolphins and humans fuck for pleasure. The rest of the animals have sex based on desire, kind of like a hunger that must be fed once the desire gets too high. The abstract shit we put behind love and sex are pretty much bullshit. Love and sex are just physical desires. Survival reflexes. We give them much more credit than they deserve.
