WTF is the infil code?
The infil code is an unwritten agreement between infils to not fight each other using short range energy weapons. It came to be a very long time ago. Some people think that it came from EOL. It is true that in EOL it makes even more sense to not kill other sniping infils because there aren't even flags to kill each other over, but the code has existed for much, much longer.
The infil code was created because infils are not well balanced to fight each other close range like infantry and heavies are. The infils have such light armor that when fighting it is almost a guarentee to be hit and lose hp. Infantrys can fight each other for as long as their ammo holds and if their strafe and aim are good enough they will be practically immortal. This is because they can take several direct hits from an Assault Rifle and not lose hp. So ultimately the reason the infil code exists is because while skill in maneuvering and aim may make your immortal on all the other classes, while being an infil, regardless of skill, you will probably be hurt or killed when attacking another infil, and that infil will probably also be hurt.
That is pointless. The only reason in works in the game is that you have the ability to come back after death. I guarentee you that if you only got one death per game that you wouldn't see so many guest infils doing kamikazi runs on infantrys.
Some people are determined to think that the infil code is for noobs and that only people who suck follow it. I can understand them believing this because they probably have met and killed several low-skill infils at little or no cost to their life. Then they probably think that when they meet and get seriously hurt by another infil and die, while in turn harming that infil, that they just screwed up in a regular fight and will do better next time.
This is not true. Infils just harm each other easier than the rest of the classes because energy weapons drain energy and they have light armor. People who have followed the infil code probably don't realize why it makes sense. They more than likely follow it because in their experiance it makes being an infil less annoying and more fun.
There are people who refuse to even acknowledge the codes existance because it was never written anywhere. Anyone who thinks that the extent of daily infantry life extends only as far as the Devs have written it is either a REAL newbie player, or a fucking moron.
